My Proposal
Just a quick update. Shane Greer, Editor of Total Politics magazine, asked (on Twitter): "Has it occurred to you that if companies were compelled to pay interns a salary there would be fewer internships?"
I'm not suggesting a salary, I'm suggesting that interns are paid a freelance rate for what they produce. That way, if their work is of no use to the company, they still come away with experience and the company doesn't lose out. However, if they produce something worthwhile (defined by the company wishing to publish it) then they get paid as any freelancer would.
