SMMT: fleet registrations 15% up

New car registrations across fleets have risen 14.8 percent this year-to-date compared with the same period last year, according to figures released by the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT).
Nearly 600,000 vehicles were newly registered this year as fleet, defined by the SMMT as including more than 25 vehicles.
However, the figures are marred by the drop in new car registrations over the entire industry for the first time in a year.
There is a drop of 13.2 percent in the number of vehicles registered when the figure for all cars is compared between July 2010 and July 2009.
Paul Everitt, SMMT chief executive, said: "Subdued consumer confidence and a still fragile economic recovery make the outlook for the remainder of 2010 challenging, but a stronger than expected first half means full year volumes are still forecast to exceed 2009’s total."
